Industry 4.0 (I4.0) is a term that has been used frequently in recent years to describe the integration of advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) into manufacturing and supply chains. With I4.0, businesses can create flexible and digitalized systems that improve efficiency and productivity.
However, with the integration of these advanced technologies into industrial systems, there is a need for ensuring quality attributes are met. This is where a recently published scientific paper comes in. The paper discusses the importance of quality attributes in I4.0 systems and proposes a Quality 4.0 Model to refine the widely used ISO 25010 quality standard specifically for I4.0 systems.
The authors of the paper emphasize the importance of qualities like adaptability, portability, maintainability, reliability, efficiency, efficacy, and scalability in I4.0 processes. These qualities are critical in ensuring the success of I4.0 systems. For instance, adaptability and portability are essential in ensuring that I4.0 systems can integrate and interact with other systems easily, while maintainability and reliability are essential in ensuring the systems remain functional over long periods.
The paper also discusses specific challenges facing I4.0 processes, such as achieving vertical and horizontal integration of value chains and building secure and maintainable cyber-physical systems. These challenges are crucial in ensuring the success of I4.0 systems.
To evaluate the adequacy of the proposed Quality 4.0 Model, the authors evaluate two I4.0 platforms. They plan to refine the model through further evaluation in other domains and projects.
In conclusion, the integration of advanced technologies like IoT and CPS into manufacturing and supply chains has brought about significant improvements in efficiency and productivity. However, to ensure the success of these systems, there is a need for ensuring quality attributes are met. The proposed Quality 4.0 Model in this scientific paper provides a framework for refining the widely used ISO 25010 quality standard specifically for I4.0 systems. The paper highlights the importance of qualities like adaptability, portability, maintainability, reliability, efficiency, efficacy, and scalability in ensuring the success of I4.0 systems.
